Hiring a renovator means letting a team into your home. Here is what stands behind Rohan Renovation, what each credential means for you, and how to check it for yourself.
01
Licensed in the City of Toronto
The City of Toronto licenses the businesses that renovate homes. A licensed renovator is on record with the City and has to meet its bylaw requirements, so you know who you are dealing with and there is somewhere to turn if something goes wrong.
What to Expect
The company name and licence details on your quote and contract
A team that knows the City’s rules for work in Toronto homes
How to Check
Ask for the licence number and confirm it with the City of Toronto by calling 311.
The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board covers workers in Ontario. If someone is hurt while working in your home, a covered contractor’s WSIB coverage handles it, not your home insurance and not you.
What to Expect
A current WSIB clearance certificate before work begins
Coverage for the crew working on your project
How to Check
Ask for a clearance certificate, or look the business up with WSIB’s online clearance check.
Liability insurance protects your home and property. If something is accidentally damaged during the work, from a flooded floor to a cracked counter, the contractor’s policy is there to make it right.
What to Expect
A certificate of insurance on request, before work starts
The insurer’s name, so you can confirm the policy is active
How to Check
Call the insurer named on the certificate to confirm the policy is current.
